SURABAYA: Airlangga University (Unair) will send a team to participate in the Indonesian Smart Robot Contest to be held in early May. The team will present B-War, a firefighting robot that is equipped with a thermal detector and a fire extinguisher.
B-War is installed with an AVR micro-controller, an ultrasonic sensor and the Upitron thermal sensor, which can detect fires. B-War is set to become a pioneering project among Unair robot manufacturing students.
Unair students Deni and Sindunata initially came up with the idea for the robot in 2004, but were unable to manufacture it then due to limited funds. Their idea was realized early this year after the students obtained financial help from the university.
Sindunata said that Unair provided Rp 20 million for his team to manufacture the robot. - JP
